British filmmaker, artist and activist Derek Jarman transformed the Victorian fisherman’s hut at Dungeness into what has been described as a sanctuary of art and imagination.

A crowdfunding appeal raised £3.5 million in March 2020 as Prospect Cottage had been at risk of being sold privately and its contents dispersed. Tthe campaign enabled Art Fund to purchase Prospect Cottage and secure its future as a centre of creative activity.
